MQ Health is looking for an experienced Clinical Nurse Consultant (Grade 2) to join our Cancer Services team.

The Role
The Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to provide quality healthcare and support services to cancer patients. The CNC is the strategic point of contact for cancer patients and their families and assists with navigating through the health care system with the goal of achieving optimal patient outcomes. The CNC serves as a single point of contact for referring physicians, patients and families to provide resources and assistance in accessing clinical and supportive care services. The CNC also assists patients in understanding their diagnosis, treatment options and resources available, including educating patients about appropriate treatment options including standard-of-care protocols, research studies, and clinical trials.
The CNC will be expected to operate with relative autonomy and make a significant contribution to the development and implementation of education and research. In this context, the CNC will also be required to participate in and lead projects identified as strategic priorities by MQ Health.

Key Accountabilities

  • Provide expert clinical advice and education to patients, carers and other health care professionals in Oncology and Haematology across MQ Health
  • Provide assessment and screening of cancer patients for clinical, psychosocial and supportive care needs throughout continuum of care
  • Facilitate delivery of cancer care consistent with established evidence-based guidelines, and ensure timely and appropriate referral to specialist, allied health and support services
  • Participate in and take the lead on service improvement activities that aim to improve care and optimise outcomes for individuals and services
  • Provide high level leadership in contemporary practice, promoting professional focus conducive to innovation and change across the MQ campus, and by incorporating research findings into nursing practice
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of education programs and resources for patients, carers and healthcare professionals
  • Participates in formal processes for the strategic operational planning for the Cancer Services Program, and act as a change agent through formulation of new standards and policies
  • Initiate, develop, manage and implement prioritised strategic clinical projects across MQ Health
  • Take an active role in the hospital wide accreditation process to meet healthcare standards incorporating Core Standards for Safety and Quality

About You
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Registered Nurse to join our Cancer Services team as a Clinical Nurse Consultant. You will work as part of a dedicated and highly skilled multidisciplinary team, to provide care in both the inpatient setting and ambulatory care service for cancer patients. You will be familiar with supporting patients through diagnosis and therapeutic pathways. With excellent interpersonal skills, and ability to build relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, you will assist in leading initiatives to help grow our Cancer Services Program.

To be considered for this position, you will demonstrate the below requirement in your CV and a 1–2-page cover letter:

  • Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency with minimum five (5) years post-basic registration experience with at least 3 years’ experience in Cancer Nursing
  • Relevant post graduate tertiary qualifications, or relevant work experience or combination of study and work experience relevant to Cancer Care
  • Proven clinical leadership capabilities with the ability to provide consultancy advice, education and support to patients, their families, nursing staff and other health professionals
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including written, verbal and computer skills and the ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team
  • Strong organisational skills and an ability to multi-task, prioritise and problem solve with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Experience with project management, research, data collection and service review as well as the ability to apply evidence-based practice to the workplace to ensure continuous quality improvement
  • Demonstrated ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care in collaboration with other members of the multidisciplinary tea
