Detailed Overview: Reporting to the Director, Pharmacy Services, the Coordinator, Pharmacy Operations Support is responsible for supporting the overall pharmacy operations including human resources planning, product preparation services, inventory management, drug distribution services, clinical services and strategic projects. The Coordinator, Pharmacy Operations Support is also responsible for assisting with human, financial and material resources effectively including developing procedures, organizing workflow, and maintaining quality assurance. Responsibilities:

  • Works collaboratively with Pharmacy Directors, Managers and Coordinators in the coordination of pharmacy operations including product preparation and drug distribution services, inventory management, clinical pharmacy services, recruitment initiatives, scheduling and posting processes.
  • Partners with Pharmacy Directors, Managers and Coordinators in strategic project planning of local and Lower Mainland Pharmacy Services (LMPS) initiatives including designing and implementing change processes required to transition from existing service models to new models.
  • Develops processes and methods for project implementation resulting from strategic initiatives and ensures that initiatives and carried out in accordance with the goals, policies and vision of the LMPS. Monitors project progress and takes corrective action to ensure that project implementation strategies and services continue to operate efficiently and effectively; ensures project reporting requirements are met.
  • Provides education about projects to individuals, groups, organizations and communities as it pertains to successfully completing project deliverables.
  • Provides leadership of people to foster an environment that is supportive of engagement, innovation, individual and team achievements and the provision of safe, quality care.
  • Identifies and assesses education and orientation needs of pharmacy support staff and students. Develops and implements programs as requested by the Director, Pharmacy Services to ensure pharmacy support staff and students maintain skills and knowledge in order to follow established protocols and procedures.
  • Coordinates the control and distribution of narcotic and controlled drugs. Develops procedures for monitoring and distributing narcotics, and ensuring required legal records are maintained according to established protocols.
  • Coordinates the distribution of drugs such as wardstock. Develops procedures to ensure medication accuracy and safety.
  • Coordinates inventory management, physical inventory counts and audits to ensure accuracy.
  • Provides input into the development of operational and capital expense budgets. Analyzes available financial data, investigates budget variances and initiates corrective action or justifies non-adherence. Identifies trends to be used for future budget planning. Seeks opportunities to enhance revenues or reduce costs. Prepares rationale and justification for budgets requests.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships, ongoing communications with pharmacy staff, other departments/programs at and across assigned sites/community areas and other internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborates with relevant leaders and stakeholders to develop, update and maintain policies and procedures relating to pharmacy operations.
  • Participates in the development and monitoring of quality assurance, identifies areas for improvement, and follows up as required.
  • Chairs and/or participates on committees; prepares status reports to update the Director and develops recommendations on follow up action to be taken; implements approved recommendations.
  • Participates in the development, implementation and negotiation of essential service contingency plans.
  • Ensures Director is informed of and aware of significant events and activities in the areas of responsibility
