Reporting to the Plant Controller, the Cost Accountant will bring their expertise in cost accounting and variance analysis to optimize production performance and inventory management. The successful candidate will come from a strong manufacturing background (food processing preferred) with a deep understanding of cost drivers, manufacturing processes and key performance metrics along with a demonstrated ability to collaborate with different departments across the business.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • CPA designation.
  • 5+ years of cost accounting experience required, with a multi-site, multi-sku manufacturing and/or food processing background preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of and experience with ERP systems, more specifically with bills of material (BOM), routings and MRP concepts.
  • Experience working in both actual and standard cost manufacturing environments is considered an asset.
  • Intermediate computer skills including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Teams.
  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Team player with exceptional ability to establish and maintain quality relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Strong work ethic and a demonstrated ability to deliver results within agreed to timelines.
  • High attention to detail.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze production results against standard expectations and explain cost variances, including purchase price variances and production variances.
  • Prepare and distribute daily, weekly and monthly KPI, inventory and variance reports in a timely manner.
  • Reconcile and balance inventory on hand, working with other departments to address differences.
  • Maintain inventory control by assisting with inventory counts, monitoring inventory adjustments, disposals and scrap and analyzing inventory variances, taking corrective action where necessary.
  • Maintain and oversee all inventory costs, including purchased item cost updates and bill of material (BOM) and routing setup and maintenance.
  • Oversee management of ERP settings and master data that impact inventory costs and reporting.
  • Perform month end procedures through collaboration with local and head office teams to ensure proper reporting and valuation of inventory.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts by analyzing current performance and the cost sensitivity of alternative processes and/or inputs.
  • Provide support to other team members in the estimation of costs for new products.
  • Assist in the monitoring of R&D projects and activities through the compilation of relevant costs.
  • Support the annual budget and regular forecasting initiatives.
  • Identify and recommend opportunities for improved cost control and cost reduction.
  • Continually evaluate processes and procedures for opportunities to drive efficiencies and improve decisions.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for system and operational users.
  • Other job duties as required.
