This is a Macdonald Campus course. Reporting to the Director Bieler School of Environment, the course lecturer delivers lectures in a team-taught class, supervises course-related activities, engages with co-instructors, grades assignments and exams, and responds to academic requests from students. Must be available to attend course coordination and planning meetings a minimum of 2 weeks in advance of course start date.
Environmental Research Design covers techniques used in design and completion of environmental research projects. Problem definition, data sources and use of appropriate strategies and methodologies. Principles underlying research design are emphasized, including critical thinking, recognizing causal relationships, ideologies and bias in research, and when and where to seek expertise.
Teaching Qualification Requirements:
Demonstrated experience through course work and research with expertise in research surveys, interviews, research ethics and the associated process of research approval, statistics and analysis techniques. As this is a team-taught course, the experience will need to complement the team expertise that year.
Ph.D. in Environment, Anthropology, Political Science, Sociology, Biology, Ecology, Geography, Natural Resource Sciences, or other discipline closely linked to environmental studies relevant to the topic of the course. Focus of degree, in any year, is contingent upon complementarity to the team’s expertise. The University may, at its discretion, assign the person of its choice to give this Course/ Teaching.
Note: The McGill exam sessions take place over two weeks after the end of classes, and Course Lecturers are expected to be available on the day of a scheduled final exam and are required to grade final exams as part of their contract.
