Description:
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- A relevant bachelor’s degree.
- PGCE or PGDE and QTS (Qualified Teacher Status)
- Masters Degree preferred
- A minimum of 5 years of teaching experience in the UK or at an English Curriculum International School including a minimum of 2 Years in a leadership position.
- KS5 teaching experience is required.
- Timetabling experience is preferred.
- Professional Leadership qualifications are preferred.
Core Purpose of the Role:
- To consult with the HoSS, Head of School and SSLT in coordinating the Secondary School Improvement Plan (SSIP)
- To provide professional leadership to secure the academic success and improvement of the Secondary School
- To manage, develop and implement the Secondary School curriculum and liaise with the Primary School on curriculum continuity
- To support and deputise for the HoSS as required.
- To implement the mission, policies and plans of the Secondary School and Whole School, as laid down by the Head of School and Board of Directors
- To teach a reduced allocation as agreed with the HoSS and Head of School
Specific Aspects of the Role:
Monitoring the Curriculum
- To frame, implement and review the academic priorities of the Secondary School Improvement Plan in consultation with the Head of Secondary School and the Head of School;
- To frame, implement and review the effectiveness of the Secondary School’s academic, teaching and learning policies and systems in consultation with the Head of Secondary School, and Head of School.
- To report regularly on the performance of subject departments.
- Options– In conjunction with the Heads of Careers, the postholder is responsible for the Options Programme. The program offered is subject to the constraints of timetabling of staff and resources.
- To support effective budgetary control of curriculum areas.
- To work closely with the Director of Learning and Teaching to secure the successful implementation of the curriculum.
Leading and Managing staff in the Secondary School
- To ensure that effective professional relationships are formed between subject leaders and within-subject departments;
- To exercise effective academic and professional leadership of the Heads of Department and teaching staff of the Secondary School
- To ensure that the professional responsibilities and duties of staff are fulfilled.
- To manage the Head of Department group and conduct regular meetings and surveys to ensure effective implementation of directives from both the Head of School and the HoSS.
- To assist the HoSS with any matters relating to the everyday running of the Secondary School.
Learning and Teaching
- To conduct regular learning walks and observations to ensure the effective implementation of the T&L policy.
- To work closely with the HoSS, Head of School and the Director of L&T to implement effective strategies and interventions.
- To monitor the planning and implementation of effective SoW and how they correlate between the various subject areas
- To work closely with the HoSS to review all assessment procedures in the SHS.
- To monitor the effective use of Data to inform learning along with the HoSS, Director of Learning and Teaching and the Head of School.
- To take an active role in Teaching and Learning Communities.
