What is the overall job?
The Design Manager will report to the Project Director for the day to day tasks with functional report to the Head of Design, and may have supervisory responsibilities for other project members. The Design Manager will be responsible for design management across the entire project. Other key responsibilities will include:
- Appoint the consultants by preparing their respective scope of services and negotiate the fees
- Manage the design procurement and development process in consideration of the project program, cost, health and safety, sustainability and quality requirements.
- Acquire deep understanding of the design brief such as the Employer’s Requirements and the Contractor’s Proposals. Manage to ensure the project design is in compliance with them
- Ensure design is compliant with all relevant legislation and delivered in accordance with CDMC requirements.
- Ensure buildability, cost effectiveness and a high standard of finish
- Establish, monitor and manage the design program
- Develop and manage the project document control systems
- Resolve all design issues including those from the client, authorities and the our project team
What do I need to be successful in this role?
- Background in design, construction and delivery process including design management experience with a main contractor on projects.
- Knowledge of design principles and experience in project delivery
- Commercial and financial understanding in the above context – ability to contribute to value enhancement as part of the design process
- Demonstrable experience in construction, including a sound knowledge of Construction methodology, process and sequence
- Experience of User group interface and stakeholder engagement
- Educated to degree level or equivalent. Recognised disciplines include; Engineering, Building, Quantity Surveying or similar building related studies.
