Responsible for the active coordination, administration, and support of environmental, safety and occupational health programs, as well as overseeing the Lean process improvement program. Develop and implement procedures that effectively prevent accidents and health exposures in the workplace and work to assure full regulatory compliance. Promote the company’s Safety Program and Improvement Initiatives. Must be an influencer, change agent, and finisher; driven, results oriented leader biased for action in setting the course to achieve manufacturing excellence. Individual role, no direct reports.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

  • B.S. Degree in related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment. Hands-on production floor involvement with facilities management experience in machining, mechanical, or electrical. Experience in wire and cable environment preferred.
  • Experience in performing EH&S compliance and tasks.
  • CSP and/or CFM Certifications a preferred.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS PREFERRED:

  • Technical knowledge of and experience with environmental, health and safety issues and regulations required.
  • Knowledge of Local, Provincial and Federal/CCOHS guidelines and regulations required.
  • Lean/Six Sigma training; Green Belt preferred.
  • Proven technical skills and reasoning ability, as well as sound analytical and troubleshooting skills to isolate the variables that cause problems and identify appropriate corrective actions.
  • Serves as a team player with staff colleagues and a developer of teamwork skills within designated areas of responsibility.
  • Demonstrated ability to create strong working relationships with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and presentation skills. Superior oral and written communication skills with all employees, staff, contractors, and outside regulatory officials.
  • Self-starter, persistent, safety-conscious individual who is proactive in initiating work assignments.
  • Knowledge of Mobile Equipment: PIT (Powered Industrial Trucks) and Powered Platform Equipment and Operational Guidelines a plus.
  • Proficient computer skills in MS Office & virtual on-line programs.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND/OR PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work long hours in a sedentary position sitting, talking, looking at a computer, charts/graphs and performing repetitive motions.
  • Ability to move objects and materials of at least 25 lbs/12 kg.
  • Ability to collaborate with manufacturing team members as needed in an environment that can be noisy.
  • Ability to follow safety guidelines and wear required PPE when onsite.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the staff specialist in safety and health by developing and implementing procedures that effectively prevent accidents and health exposures in the workplace and work to ensure full CCOHS compliance.
  • Oversee adherence to all Local, Provincial, and Federal environmental regulations and requirements. Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with these regulations and codes.
  • Monitor and keep abreast of all current information on regulations and requirements related to environmental health & safety matters. Manage compliance to all regulatory agencies’ documents/forms on a continuing basis. Attend conferences, meetings, workshops, and retraining seminars or courses to keep up to date on new environmental, health and safety methods and procedures applicable to new regulations and codes and to maintain a required level of certification and competency.
  • Drive timely completion and tracking of all safety related work orders.
  • Manage and coordinate the Safety Program and Compliance Calendar.
  • Create and conduct training programs to increase proficiency in safe practices and promote safety consciousness for all employees.
  • Conduct on-site safety and health inspections, reviews, and audits. Assess the risk potential of safety hazards within the Company’s operations and facilities. Promote employee’s participation and involvement in safety & health matters.
  • Respond to and aid all environmental, health, and safety emergency situations. Investigate accidents, near-misses, injuries, etc. Perform follow-up meetings and training for corrective actions. Use data analysis to implement recurrence prevention programs and procedures.
  • Research and evaluate new safety equipment, chemicals, and process equipment for use.
  • Maintain all environmental, health and safety files and records.
  • Actively manage outside consultants (when hired for services) to further support all EH&S programs and policies.
  • Coordinate and present lean training to associates and staff across all levels of the organization.
  • Facilitate rapid improvement (kaizen) events to drive process improvements. Prepare and present report outs at the conclusion of the event. Track actions and lead team members through completion.
  • Monitor and ensure audit processes are in place to sustain 5S and Visual Factory Performance.
