The MITRE Europe and Africa Regional Operations Department (N251) is seeking highly motivated, late-early and early-mid career candidates passionate about solving problems for a safer world. The Europe and Africa Regional Operations Department (N251) provides you the opportunity to solve the most challenging national and international security problems across Europe and Africa by partnering with the US Department of Defense (DoD), North Atlantic Treaty Organizations (NATO), and partner nations (PN) to apply advanced capabilities to real world operational needs. Selected applicants will gain exposure and experience in topics of common interest to the entire national security community.
Selected applicants will interact with a diverse group of peers, national security leaders, and sponsors solving real-world problems. A three (3) year overseas commitment is required.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Typically, a Bachelor of Science (BS) in a technical field such as Systems Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related discipline and a minimum of 5 years related experience, or an advanced degree with 3 years of experience who can immediately contribute at this job step; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in technical areas relevant to the specific role, such as model-based systems engineering (MBSE), digital engineering, and system-of-systems architecture.
  • Demonstrated familiarity and skills in Network systems integration and data centric services, cloud computing, architecture, zero trust, and network security.
  • Experience engaging with multiple levels of government and military leadership
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly and effectively to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Active Secret clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI
  • Flexibility to work on-site as required.
  • Candidate will be submitted for NATO Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) status through US DoD sponsors and must be able to be approved and maintain the approved SOFA status during the foreign assignment.
  • This position requires an on-site presence of 5 days a week on-site.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 8 years of experience and BS in a technical discipline, such as Systems Engineering or related fields; or 6 years and Master’s degree; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
  • Experience in Command and Control processes, architectures, and systems.
  • Prior experience working with or on a Headquarters staff
  • Interest in team leadership opportunities
  • Experience as an enterprise architect or systems of systems integrator
  • Current knowledge of C2 and/or intelligence concepts/programs
  • Understanding of best-practices for layered C2 and defense constructs across services
  • Active Top Secret/SCI Clearance
  • Additional clearances: NATO SECRET
  • Demonstrated capability for strategic planning and ability to provide actionable plans to government sponsors

Responsibilities:

As a key member of MITRE’s team USEUCOM on-site in Stuttgart, Germany, you will collaborate with MITRE teams supporting US Africa Command (AFRICOM) at Kelley Barracks, US European Command (EUCOM) at Patch Barracks and with the theater service components: US Air Forces Europe – Air Forces Africa, US Army Europe and Africa, and Naval Forces in Europe and Africa. You will gain deep insights into sponsor missions and leverage your technical expertise to drive innovation and problem solving. At the culmination of your initial three (3) years, you will become equipped with a strong foundation in operational and mission problem sets and become a poised to lead future endeavors within the Combatant Command (CCMD) Division

From architecting resilient systems to ensuring the seamless integration of cutting-edge technologies, you will leverage your systems engineering prowess, critical thinking, and collaborate skills to address a diverse array of challenges essential to mission success. Your responsibilities will encompass:

  • Development and assessment of intricate systems architectures using industry-standard languages such as SySML/UML
  • Evaluation and comparison of alternative architectures through qualitative and quantitative methodologies, providing valuable insights to inform decisions-making.
  • Identification and articulation of major uncertainties within systems architectures, along with associated risks and opportunities, devising strategies to mitigate and capitalize on them.
  • Support for requirements management, interface management, and architecture change management processes to ensure alignment with evolving mission needs.
  • Close collaboration with government sponsors and internal teams to identify critical engineering challenges and engineer effective solutions.
  • Applications of systems engineering principles to facilitate evidence-based decision-making by sponsors, ensuring the delivery of high-value capabilities.
  • Promotion of collaboration and knowledge sharing across the organization, harnessing diverse perspectives and solutions to address sponsor challenges.
  • Clear and concise communications of highly technical analyses and recommendations through written and verbal channels to sponsor and partners.
