The Faculty of Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Mathematics at the Heinz Nixdorf Institute is looking to fill up a position
in the field of Software Engineering as
Research Associate (w/m/d)
(Salary level 13 TV-L)
This is a full-time position, which is available immediately for a fixed term of three years, in order to develop scientific competences
and to prepare a doctoral dissertation (according to the Law “Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz” (WissZeitVG”)) in the field of software
engineering. An extension of the contract is generally possible within the limits set by the “WissZeitVG” law.
The Software Resilience group is a new research group, which aims to develop approaches that improve the quality of software
systems. We conduct empirical research, develop and evaluate methods with software engineers in practice. Furthermore, we care
about the soundness of research methods, and the usefulness of research results to software engineers.
The group is embedded in an interdisciplinary research landscape, with connections to the Paderborn Fraunhofer Institute for
Mechatronics Design (IEM), and the Heinz Nixdorf Institute with interdisciplinary research that involves hardware and software
systems, politics and economy.
We are looking for a scientist who wants to make an important contribution to improve the quality of software systems. Concrete
research topics include, but are not limited to: software architecture, software maintenance, mining software repositories, and
artificial intelligence for software engineering.

Scope of work:

  • Collaboration in research and teaching (usually 4 hours per week) in the area of Software Engineering
  • If applicable, collaboration in third-party funded research projects of the department
  • Organisation of teaching-courses in the field

Hiring requirements:

  • Very good scientific Master’s degree in computer science, mathematics, engineering or a related field
  • Knowledge or experience in topics related to artificial intelligence and natural language processing is of advantage.
  • Very good knowledge of written and spoken German or English, and if necessary, the willingness to learn German
