Description:

GENERAL PRACTITIONER, STUDENT HEALTH

Position Purpose: To provide competent patient centred, culturally appropriate care that
address individual and whanau health needs and promotes wellness to a
defined population. Care will be based on latest evidence and guidelines
and meets legislative requirements.
To work collaboratively with other health providers, work closely with the
nursing team to provide clinical guidance, and support.
Work with management team to input into, systems, process, and
programmes within the health services to meet Health Care standards,
including Health and Disability and requirements as outlined by Te Whatu
Ora, contracts held with health partners. Services also comply to the
Education (Pastoral Care of Tertiary and International Learners) Code of
Practice 202I, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, Health, and Safety requirements,
internal policy, and frameworks.

About this area Ngā Ratonga Tauira Student Services guides and supports our tauira
through their Massey Experience. This is achieved by ensuring: students
are enabled to achieve personal and academic success; students are
engaged with the University and are empowered to participate in their
community and to grow their whole self. As a team we take a strengths-
based approach to our work and are committed to a culture of
continuous improvement.
Those working in Oranga Tauira / Student Wellbeing collaborate with a
range of other professional and academic services across the University
to deliver proactive and responsive services that contribute to the health
and wellbeing of students on campus and at a distance.
Short term counselling and psychological interventions for students as
well as a range of other proactive and psychoeducational events and
interactions are the core business of the counselling team. Staff provide
primary care interventions to students who experience a range of mental
health challenges and aid all staff to support students to on their
academic journey and seek appropriate referral sources for more
complex and chronic presentations. In addition, the team responds to
critical incidents and sexual harm events experienced by students.
