QUALIFICATIONS

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes demonstrated working knowledge of a variety of professional health care concepts, practices, and principles to perform assignments in order to carry out a continuing Risk Management Program; analyzing reported adverse events to identify risk management issues; initiating and coordinating appropriate follow-on action and preparing and conducting training on risk management techniques.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
OR
Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in hospital administration, public health administration, or related fields such as business or public administration with course work in health care administration.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).

Help

• Is responsible for independently reviewing all actions from all sections of the MEDDAC that may possibly be determined as risk management issues.
• Investigates cases from multiple data sources such as inpatient and outpatient records, patient safety reports, occurrences, infection control data,
• length of stay, or summaries of complications to identify problems and determine the quality and appropriateness of patient care, and deviations from recognized standard of care.
• Advises Quality Management Division Chief of the response and makes recommendations on any further action needed.
• Reviews all medical record requests from attorneys to determine if reason for request is potential litigation.
• Participates in providing advice and assistance to the clinical and the non-clinical departments in the identification and investigation of RM problems, designing assessment methodologies, and preparing appropriate reviews.
• Serves as clinical resource for the patient representative, congressional inquiries, safety, and inspector general complaints in the identification and investigation of risk management problems.
