Description:
POSITION SUMMARY
The Research Associate will focus primarily on isolation of high molecular weight DNA and library preparation of sequencing libraries for long-read sequencing, particularly on the PacBio platform, to support a variety of grant-funded projects in the laboratory. The research associate will be expected to learn and develop high-throughput automation protocols for high molecular weight DNA isolation, DNA shearing and size selection, PacBio Revio library preparation and QC, gain proficiency in physically loading a sequencing instrument, and transferring data off the instrument after run completion. The research associate will work with a large diversity of both plant and animal species, and will be communicating with diverse groups over email to relay project updates.
EDUCATION AND REQUIRED SKILLS EXPERIENCE
- Bachelors degree from accredited institution in biology, biotechnology, genetics, or related field
- Experience with pipetting and general molecular biology
- Experience with nucleic acid isolation
- Experience in sequencing library preparation (short-read or long-read)
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a highly collaborative environment
- Demonstrated ability to advance projects, managing multiple tasks and priorities

Responsibilities:
The Research Associate:
- Works closely with the Laboratory Manager and all laboratory members to drive projects forward
- Leads high molecular weight nucleic acid isolation for a diversity of plant species
- Leads PacBio library preparation and sequencing
- Assists in preparing manuscripts and co-authors papers for publication in high-quality journals
- Interacts with collaborators to receive samples and communicate sample timelines and issues
- Presents findings to the scientific community
- Assists in the mentoring and teaching of other research staff
- Helps ensure that the research methods and ultimate work product are reflective of the highest scientific standards of integrity, quality and confidence
- Exhibits curiosity and enthusiasm for discovery; embraces the ever-changing scientific environment
- Other duties as assigned
