Responsibilities:
WHAT YOULL DO:
Manage HR Compliance
- Leads HR compliance education for both staff and manager audiences based on internal and external requirements, regulations, and best practices, including facilitating instructor-led sessions, monitoring completion of mandatory trainings, and supporting in the development of internal or coordination of external content as needed.
- Administers HR policies, including implementing and enforcing policies consistently across the organization, providing guidance to managers and staff on policy interpretation, and addressing policy-related issues or questions to ensure compliance and clarity.
- Supports the development and maintenance of HR policies and practices by conducting research into compliance-related issues and developments at the federal, state, and local levels, recommending actions based on analysis of findings, and facilitating associated change communications.
- Ensures all federal, state, and local reporting and posting requirements are met, including submitting data to online portals, maintaining labor law posters, and creating and maintaining detailed standard operating procedures and a multi-year calendar of all routine internal and external reporting requirements relevant to the HR department to ensure compliance continuity.
- Collaborates with colleagues in Talent to ensure correct classification of positions and people, including determining correct FLSA statuses, workers compensation codes, and standard occupational classification codes
Manage HR Operations
- Manages daily operations of the HR Department by way of overseeing day-to-day work of the HR Generalist, providing feedback and direction on priorities and work products, and guiding the interpretation of policies, procedures, and practices as it relates to decision-making in their role.
- Provides supervision, training, development, performance feedback, and support to the HR Generalist, including regular check-ins, formal goal setting, and semi-annual performance evaluation.
- Develops, implements, and maintains HR operational processes and procedures, ensuring consistency and compliance while striving for continuous improvement and effective cross-departmental collaboration.
- Oversees employee background checks, including monitoring federal, state, and local requirements, reviewing new or amended program agreements, and adjudicating background check results.
- Completes monthly (minimum) audits of recent new hires, changes, and terminations to ensure compliance with internal and external requirements, including reviewing HRIS and file components for accuracy.
- Continuously reviews the functional capabilities of HR systems and collaborates with colleagues within and outside the HR department to maximize system utilization and process efficiency.
- Produces ad hoc employee data reports in response to requests from fellow HR team members and other relevant parties, ensuring sensitive information is only shared on a need-to-know basis and in a secure manner.
- Creates and updates Positions and Position Seats in the HRIS when new or additional roles are approved or existing roles are amended and updates Salary Grades as needed.
Provide HR Service & Support
- Leads large-scale HR projects, including cross-department collaboration, monitoring deliverables and timelines, and keeping stakeholders informed of progress and challenges.
- Assist the MDHR with sensitive employee relations matters as needed, including supporting with accommodations, mediations, investigations, and separations.
- Provides routine support to staff with questions about HR services and tools through timely, professional, and kind communication and delivery of results.
- Supports HR projects and functions as needed and works in close collaboration with colleagues in HR, Talent, Accounting, Finance, IT, and National Service (AmeriCorps).
- Keeps abreast of employment law and legislation in relation to the field of Human Resources
- Other duties as assigned.

- Employee Relations: Demonstrate the capability to impartially investigate allegations of inappropriate conduct, resolve interpersonal conflict, and lead sensitive conversations with appropriate confidentiality and compassion.
- Operational Efficiency: Demonstrate proficiency in managing day-to-day HR operations, optimizing processes, and utilizing HR technology to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
- Strategic Thinking: Demonstrate the proactive inclination to identify emerging challenges and opportunities, determine the accuracy and relevance of information, and use sound judgment to generate and evaluate solutions and recommendation action plans.
- Training & Development: Demonstrate the ability to design, deliver, and evaluate training programs that enhance management skills, employee knowledge HR services and practices, and compliance with HR policies.
- Communication: Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication, including the ability to relay complex information clearly, and awareness of appropriate non-verbal communication even during high-stress situations.
- People Management: Demonstrate proficiency in managing direct reports, including setting clear expectations, providing regular feedback, coaching for development, and conducting performance evaluations.
Youll be successful in this role if you:
- Have at least 5 years of related Human Resources experience, including at least 1 year at a management level and 2 years with a compliance emphasis.
- Have a Bachelors degree in Human Resources, Management & Leadership, Business Administration, or a related field (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Demonstrate proficiency with web-based software tools, such Google Workspace and HRIS products.
