ENLIGHTENING SCIENCE

European XFEL is an international non-profit company located in the Hamburg area in Germany. It operates a 3.4 km-long X-ray laser, which produces X-rays of unique quality for studies in physics, chemistry, the life sciences, materials research and other disciplines. The diverse scientific facilities at European XFEL enable scientists from across the globe to carry out a wide range of experimental techniques.
Our group is responsible for the continued development and operation of the Single Particle, Clusters and Biomolecule & Serial Femtosecond Crystallography Instrument (SPB/SFX) sited on the SASE1 beamline. As a group we support our users in executing a diverse range of scientific experiments and have an active, collaborative, in-house research program.
For our SPB/SFX group we are looking for an

REQUIREMENTS

  • PhD in experimental physics, X-ray imaging, or a related field
  • Good knowledge of X-ray diffraction physics, and/or other techniques such as coherent optics or crystallography
  • Previous experience of conducting single particle imaging experiments at FEL facilities
  • Expertise in aerosol sample delivery methods
  • Ability to conduct independent research while also contributing to ongoing team projects
  • Motivation to work in a diverse, international team of scientists, engineers and technicians
