Description:
Through the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS), the Government of Canada has embarked on one of the largest procurement projects since the Second World War. The NSS is a nation-building effort to create a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry, secure long-term job opportunities and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Through its NSS–related work, Seaspan Shipyards is owning the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada, by Canadians.
The Intern, Structural Engineer will be responsible for assisting Structural Engineering department in the successful completion of engineering tasks. This is a unique opportunity to get exposure to Structural Engineering beyond the design phase and into concept preparations through to production engineering and finally to the construction of the vessel.
Responsibilities:
In this role, you will provide day-to-day support while assisting and coordinating specific activities, including:
- Providing Structural engineering support as assigned including performing calculation, drafting 2D sketches and validating against Class Rules and Regulations.
- Developing lifting and turning calculations and preparing reports
- Developing Bill of Materials and Purchase Order Specifications for Structural Steel
- Liaising with Operations, Planning and Production Control to understand structural issues
- Issuing and reviewing engineering change requests
- Reviewing 3D models
- Diverse engineering drafting and calculations for production support
- Other duties as assigned, may support the Structural Engineering team as needed
