Description:

IT FIELD ENGINEER

We are looking for an IT Field Engineer to help build, maintain, and troubleshoot our rapidly expanding infrastructure. You will be part of a talented team that demonstrates superb technical competency, delivering mission critical infrastructure and ensuring the highest levels of availability, performance and security.
The qualified Field Engineer will have a background in IT, computer systems engineering, or systems engineering and analysis. Ability to be a competent Field Engineer on a hands-on basis dealing with End Users, Management & Directors alike.
Salary: £28,000 - £30,000 DOE
Location: Based in Stoke-on-Trent with travel around the Midlands and North West
Hours: Monday - Friday 8:30am-5pm

REQUIRED SKILLS AS AN IT FIELD ENGINEER:

  • Minimum 3 years working experience as an IT Field Engineer.
  • ONC/HNC/HND or equivalent in Computer Science, engineering or a related subject.
  • MCSE Qualifications in Server, Windows & Office is required.
  • Proven ability to monitor systems of all platforms.
  • Experience of managing Apple products is essential, Mac’s, iPads & iPhones.
  • Ability to effectively prioritise and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment to agreed timescales.
  • Providing reports and information to the Group IT Manager.
  • Proven experience of managing an IT Helpdesk system is essential.
  • Maintaining spend within agreed budgets.
  • Evidence of strong team leading and communication skills will be required.
  • Advanced Excel skills and good SQL experience. Any other technical, data analysis or project control experience would be advantageous.
  • Full UK Driving License.

Proven working experience in installing, configuring and troubleshooting:

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2016 & 2019 & Linux/Ubuntu based environments.

  • Dell PowerEdge Server Systems
  • Dell PowerVault Storage Systems
  • Dell PC and Laptop hardware
  • Windows 10 & 11
  • Microsoft Office 2019 & O365
  • Network equipment (Ubiquiti switches & Access Points / Fortinet Firewalls)
  • Solid scripting skills (e.g., Powershell scripts)
  • Solid networking knowledge (OSI network layers, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, Firewalls, VLAN, switch management, WLAN,
  • Routing (BGP & OSPF)

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and monitor 3rd line Helpdesk issues for all our sites. Provide 2nd and 3rd level support.
  • Install, configure, test and maintain operating systems, application software and system management tools.
  • Ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability at all times.
  • Maintain security updates on all client systems.
  • Write and maintain support processes to increase system efficiency and lower the human intervention time on any tasks.
  • Plan and manage work streams, allocating and monitoring tasks for our support partners where required. Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution.
  • Contribute to the development, testing, and implementation of software, systems, and enhancements to the laptop & desktop systems of the group. Participate in the deployment of information and operational support systems.
