ABOUT THE POSITION
We are currently seeking to fill the position of Data Analyst at UWS, a unit within Verisk Analytics. The ideal candidate is highly inquisitive, organized and detail oriented, and can think strategically and will be able to learn our business logic.
The Data Analyst position will be responsible for various analytical, operational and project management related duties and will learn and apply auto insurance fundamentals. The position will regularly perform ad-hoc analyses to research internal/external inquiries and to identify systemic issues or improvements and help guide strategic decisions using tools such as: SQL, Python, PowerBI and Excel. Position is responsible for conducting Proof of Concept tests with customers, showing the value of our products to prospective clients. The team is also responsible for helping create value add recurring reports for various areas within the organization (product, operations, sales) and performing ad-hoc data analysis
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelors Degree with at least 1-5 years of applied experience
- Degree should be in a quantitative field such as Math, Economics, etc. or applicant must have equivalent past work experience
EXPERIENCE USING PYTHON TO EXTRACT, TRANSFORM AND ANALYZE DATA REQUIRED (1+ YEARS’ EXPERIENCE)
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
- Experience managing projects with aggressive timelines
- Ability to juggle multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Knowledge of relational database concepts
- Excellent verbal & written communication in English; ability to distill complex concepts into language that is understandable and compelling to business decision makers
- Detail oriented and well organized
- Experience using SQL to query and analyze data required (1+ years’ experience) is a strong asset
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, working knowledge of Outlook, Teams, OneNote, and Visio a plus
- Familiarity with XML & JSON data formats and a plus
- Familiarity with PowerBI, Tableau a plus
- Property/Casualty insurance experience a plus

Responsibilities:
- POCs: Developing, Managing, and Executing customer Proof of Concept (POC) tests and other projects. This includes the creation of reusable Python & SQL modules for conducting batch data appends, as well as interfacing with Product, Sales & Operations on customer requirements
- Reporting: Create recurring and ad-hoc reports, both internal and customer-facing, using Excel, Python/SQL, PowerBI (e.g. financial reports, scorecards, dashboards). Position would be responsible for end-to-end process (ETL of data, data cleaning, summarization of data, creation of report/visualization)
- Analysis: Analyzing large data sets and making recommendations based on findings (Data Quality, Product Enhancements/Inquiries, A/B Testing, Data Integration)
- Create and maintain documentation that will support the effective implementation of repeatable processes, workflows and understanding of supported products & data (e.g. data dictionaries, processing instructions, internal product knowledgebase)
- Identify and implement opportunities for process improvement/efficiencies (e.g. Automation, Data Quality Checks)
- Performing QA on internal team development as needed
- Becoming a product expert in our various underwriting solutions
- Working closely with our various teams in the US (both East and West Coast)
