Job Description:
The Academic Success Centre (ASC) offers a broad range of academic support for students. The main services of the Centre include the Langara Return to Learning course, the Langara Student Success Course, Peer Supported Learning, and the Writing and Tutoring Centre.
The ASC is seeking an instructor for the Langara Return to Learning Course (LRTL).
The Langara Return to Learning Course (LRTL) is an online and asynchronous course in the ASC that helps students on first academic suspension apply for early re-admission. Delivered in partnership with the Counselling Department, the course empowers students to reflect on their learning progress and to improve their academic and learning skills
Offered asynchronously through Brightspace, the course is designed following Universal Design for Learning principles. The LRTL incorporates multiple means of representation, engagement, and assessment using text, audio, video, animations, images, comics, interactive polls with real-time results, and formative self-assessments.
Reporting to the Associate Director, Academic Success Centre, the LRTL instructor is responsible for curriculum development and delivering the course which includes monitoring student progress, responding to student inquiries, assessing and renewing curriculum. As a member of the Academic Success Centre team, the position will collaborate with other team members to ensure a responsive and relevant academic support service for students.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The LRTL instructor will:
- deliver the course in collaboration with the Counselling Department
- work collaboratively with a variety of student service and academic departments, including the Office of the Registrar, Education Technology and Langara Global to coordinate student enrollment into the LRTL and application for early re-admission by students.
- coordinate meetings for the LRTL team
- host and participate in relevant information sessions for students
- regularly participate in Academic Success Centre meetings
Education and Experience
- Master’s degree in education, Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Educational Psychology or a related discipline
- Experience teaching in higher education including teaching in an asynchronous online environment
- experience with developing academic curricula at post-secondary institutions, preferably in Canada
- experience with the application of instructional design theory and practice including outcomes-based teaching and learning, assessment of learning, and self-regulated learning
- sound knowledge of post-secondary student transition issues and challenges
- proven track record of empathetic student support practices in a post-secondary environment
- demonstrated focus on student-centred learning
- an equivalent combination of work and educational experience may be considered

LRTL Instructor 0.50 FTE Temporary Contract Dec 1, 2024 – March 31, 2025 with a possibility for extension.
Salary Range:
$45.88 - $94.99
Salary Range Placement: Salary placement is on Langara instructors’ salary scale in accordance with qualifications and experience.
