Job Description
The Law Library Assistant handles a wide range of library support activities in a highly automated and computerized environment. The responsibilities for this position include: providing assistance to patrons at the Library’s Information Desk, including answering basic reference questions; monitoring and assisting users in the Library’s four computer labs; shelving and stack maintenance; loose-leaf and microfiche filing; assisting users with microform, photocopy and audiovisual equipment; opening, sorting and distributing library mail. Other duties include night and/or weekend supervisory responsibilities (one evening per week; two to three Saturdays per semester) which include opening and/or closing the Library building. The position also entails utilizing the Library’s integrated online system for technical processing duties including serials check-in and other processing operations. Additional responsibilities assigned to law library assistants typically include one or more of the following: bindery operations, course reserves processing, microform processing, government documents processing, interlibrary loan/document delivery, creation and maintenance of serial patterns, processing of added volumes, support activities relating to collection development and acquisitions, computer lab management, editing and updating Library web pages, assistance in managing faculty publications initiatives, supporting Education and Reference group in teaching-related projects and outreach activities.
This is a full-time 35 hour per week position. Hours are 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. (four days per week) and 1:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. (evening shift - one day per week) during the academic year. Summer hours are 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

REQUIREMENTS
College degree strongly preferred; strong organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to work with complex legal materials; high degree of flexibility to handle changing priorities and schedules; ability to maintain a cheerful demeanor while working both independently and as a team member; strong customer service orientation; demonstrated proficiency in a computerized environment and familiarity with electronic mail, networked environments, Windows OS; experience with word-processing, spreadsheet, HTML desirable; library experience helpful..
