  • ASIC is seeking a full time Lawyer to join their Enforcement Inquiries and Compliance Registered Liquidators Legal Team
  • Salary starting from $75,838 (depending on experience) plus up to 15.4% superannuation)

    The team
    ASIC’s Enforcement and Compliance Group (ECG) is responsible for the conduct of ASIC’s initial inquiries, compliance and enforcement work across all sectors excluding markets. The ECG comprises Investigation and Enforcement Action, Enforcement Inquiries and Compliance, Enforcement Services and Enforcement Policy and Practice.
    The Enforcement Inquiries and Compliance function is focused on the management of referral processes, the conduct of initial inquiries to assess potential misconduct, compliance activity, and referral of misconduct to other enforcement teams for enforcement action.
    The Lawyer for Enforcement Inquiries and Compliance (EI&C) in the Registered Liquidators and Small Business team is a valued member of Registered Liquidators Legal (RL Legal). You will contribute to ASIC’s assessment of legal matters relating to the insolvency and restructuring industry.

The role

  • Assessing court applications relating to external administrations and assessing eligible applicant requests.
  • Preparing briefs to delegates recommending the winding up of abandoned companies.
  • Preparing section 127 releases.
  • Undertaking legal research and preparing draft legal advice and preparing proforma letters and notices.
  • Assisting with investigations of suspected breaches of the Corporations Act and other legislation.
  • Gathering and analysing documents, data, and evidence, undertaking searches using evidence management technology.
  • Collating documents and contributing to the preparation of matters in court including drafting and preparing legal documents and compiling briefs.
  • Preparing chronologies and summaries of evidence.
  • Assisting with the compiling briefs of evidence for the CDPP and compiling administrative briefs to ASIC delegates.

About you

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law, admission to the Supreme Court of an Australian State or Territory as a solicitor or barrister and must hold (or be eligible) a current legal practicing certificate from the relevant State law society.
  • Experience in either a legal, paralegal or similar role, with knowledge and exposure to insolvency and corporations laws an advantage.
  • Proven problem-solving skills and the ability to analyse data and information
  • Strong communication, time management and organisational skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
