Job Summary
The Manager, Business Services is responsible for handling the delivery of projects and initiatives for Financial Reporting systems as well as other custom-built solutions used by all accounting groups. The role is accountable for the ongoing support and upgrades of these systems and solutions including ensuring that they are operational during the critical times of CN’s month-end, quarter-end and year-end financial periods. These responsibilities include ensuring the integrity of financial data being transferred from ERP systems as well as how this data is transformed and presented within the financial disclosure solution. In addition, the role also oversees all aspects of security related to these tools including ensuring access to the highly confidential data is restricted.
Main Responsibilities

Financial Reporting Disclosure Solutions

  • Oversee new projects and upgrades related to Financial Reporting’s disclosure solutions and any supporting database systems
  • Engage and coordinate with third party solution providers and Information and Technology (I&T) to plan and deliver new implementations and upgrades to system applications
  • Assess and establish integration strategy for new solutions to ensure a fit with business processes as well as data integrity and security requirements
  • Communicate project status and issue escalations to stakeholders including senior management
  • Provide governance and direction to ensure proper usage of systems by Financial Reporting users to maintain integrity and confidentiality of results
  • Provide immediate support to Financial Reporting users related to all aspects of the disclosure solution that affects the time-sensitive monthly, quarterly and annual financial statement production process
  • Resolve data integration issues between various systems
  • Escalate and coordinate with I&T and third party providers to address system outages affecting availability of solutions
  • Provide extended support during evenings and weekends as required throughout financial reporting critical periods
  • Maintain an inventory of over 70 data templates used by Financial Reporting including the creation of new templates or enhancements and fixes to existing ones

Development of Agile Solutions

  • Handle and coordinate the design, development, and deployment of custom applications for the Accounting department
  • Develop and apply a strategic framework for selecting optimal technology solutions for initiatives based on evaluation of multiple business and technical criteria
  • Lead and coach the Data Analytics team of project officers to ensure solutions are developed using best practices and meet business requirements and timelines
  • Supervise the analysis and documentation of business requirements, process flows and functional specifications and provide direction on recommended solutions

Support and Training for Existing Account Solutions

  • Support the inventory of over 60 existing agile solutions used by the various groups within the Accounting department
  • Work with business partners and I&T support teams to document, prioritize and resolve system issues
  • Coordinate user training and support for new, existing and modified systems, spanning users in all departments within Accounting

Working Conditions
The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. The role is eligible to participate in CN flexible working policy. The role requires being on-call 24/7 to respond to critical incidents. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure, and stress.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Project Management

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Technology Management

Technical Skills/Knowledge

  • Expertise in TM1 and Planning Analytics Workspace, including multi-dimensional database design, complex turbo-integrator process development, MDX dynamic subset building, implementation of cube rules, creation of advanced Excel templates using Planning Analytics for Excel (PAfE), and profound understanding of all levels of security within TM1 and Planning Analytics Workspace (e.g., groups, cubes, dimensions, cell, application)
  • Familiarity with administration of Wdesk solution, with a focus on security
  • A solid understanding of advanced technical concepts such as programing languages (object oriented, procedural, and Structure Query Language (SQL)), database design and data structures, as well as application development methodology and best practices
  • Ability to use data mining tools effectively to analyze large volumes of data
  • Ability to conceptualize system process flows in order to understand system inter-dependencies and cause-effect relationships
  • Knowledge of Data Warehouse, Business Warehouse (BW), Business Objectives (BO), SQL Server, and SharePoint
