If so, we have an exhilarating opportunity for you to join our STEM education team at The Bishop Strachan School!
We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated Middle School STEM Teacher to join our team of educators. As a STEM Teacher, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our students by fostering creativity, critical thinking, and hands-on learning experiences. You will lead engaging lessons that integrate science, technology, engineering, and mathematics concepts, preparing our students for success in the rapidly evolving fields of STEM.
This role is to cover for a maternity leave from October until the end of the school year.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have an Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) certificate, with qualifications in Mathematics and/or Science
- Junior/Intermediate teaching qualifications
- Knowledgeable in all areas of Mathematics and Science and related Ontario curriculum, including Growing Success
- Strong knowledge of STEM content areas, including science, mathematics, technology, and engineering.
- Previous experience with Robotics Design and Software Development
- Ability to spark interest and passion within students for STEM learning
- Experience working with digital and analog tools in a design technology context
- Strong proficiency in Google Suite; knowledge of Brightspace an asset
- Strong pedagogical skills and a commitment to ongoing professional development
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative mindset
Responsibilities:
- Prepare lesson plans, outlines and assessments using inquiry and problem-based learning that engages students, challenges them, and meetings the subject-specific outcomes and expectations
- Develop integrated STEM lessons with the curriculum to include STEM pedagogy and inquiry-based learning
- Contributes to the development and execution of project-based STEM activities
- Identifying new opportunities to integrate technology into curriculum and lesson planning
- Ability to differentiate lesson plans based on the needs of your students
- Participate in co-curricular activities including coaching, clubs, trips and participating in the school community as a whole
- Communicate effectively with parents about all aspects of the overall program and the individual learning of each student
- Integrate diversity, equity, inclusiveness and belonging into the classroom learning environment
- Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment where students feel empowered to take risks
- Incorporate innovative teaching strategies and technologies to enhance language acquisition and engagement.
- Collaborate with colleagues to align curriculum and assessment practices with best practices in Math and Computer Science education.
- Engage in ongoing professional learning and reflection to continuously improve teaching practices and student outcomes.
