The Network Engineer role at Westpac New Zealand involves managing core infrastructure services, including networks, firewalls, databases, virtual servers, and more. The Secure Network Services Squad also handles physical data centre infrastructure, ensuring connectivity across various locations and networks. Their goal is to maintain reliable, efficient, and scalable services.
Please note: - This position requires participation in a weekly after-hours on-call support roster.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Implement solutions to significantly complex network solutions and delivering technical leadership in Cisco Routing & Switching including BGP, NSX-T, Software Defined Networking, etc.
- Provide 3rd-level support / technical assistance and monitor issue resolution to ensure issues are resolved within a timely manner.
- Provide guidance and support to squads for design and deployment options into WNZL Network environments.
- Undertake problem determination and root cause analysis to ensure permanent corrective actions are implemented appropriately.
- Understand business continuity requirements, plan and undertake effective Disaster Recovery and testing procedures to ensure effective Disaster.
- Recovery plans are developed, documented, tested and implemented.
- Identify, surface risks, and collaborate with Technology Risk Services to address risk gaps and understanding associated controls.
- Support risk management initiatives and practices in your service area and across Core Infrastructure service group and act as Risk Champion for the group while supporting the Service Owner uplift risk management awareness.
- Perform related duties as assigned, within the scope of role and as required by senior leadership.
Nā tāu rourou | What will you bring?
- Minimum 3 plus years of experience working as a Network engineer.
- Good knowledge skills and experience in Cisco Switching and Routing (CCNP certification mandatory)
- Good working knowledge of implementing/supporting VMware NSX-T.
- Good working knowledge of the following: XLAN, EVPN, VPC, Routing protocols such as BGP and OSPF and the Cisco deployment Toolset such as DCNM
- Ability to troubleshoot complex network issues and resolve them in a timely manner using Tools such as Wireshark and packet traces and debug analysis.
- Ability to work with Project Managers to scope and plan technical work deliverables and the timeframes involved.
- Provide detailed design documentation when required.
- Proven experience with networking concepts such as WAN connectivity, IPSec GRE VPN, transport types and protocols, load balancing and API automation
- Comfortable working with 3rd parties to solve complex engineering issues
- Used to working with strict change control procedures, e.g., using Service Now along with Incident & Problem Management (ITIL)
- Beneficial if you have a good understanding of the Technical DevOps model, scripting languages and APIs like Python and REST API and Automation platforms such as Ansible, AWX and Terraform
