Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE

Due to our continued growth, we are looking for a qualified solicitor to join our business as Legal Counsel.
The role would suit a solicitor of around 1-5 years’ PQE with experience in commercial contracts and corporate law. In this varied role reporting to our General Counsel & Chief Risk Officer, you will assist with advising the business on complex client contracts and supplier agreements and provide support on business-critical projects and legal risk analysis.
This role is offered on a part-time basis with requirement to attend our newly refurbished office in Leeds, LS15 area on a weekly basis.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Drafting and negotiating strategic and commercially important contracts for our business, collating input from colleagues across various business functions such as Finance, HR, Client Development & Sales and Operations to meet the business’ preferred commercial and legal risk positions.
  • Providing legal support to internal stakeholders to ensure, in the respect of procurement, that terms and conditions work for the business in all respects.
  • Participating in business projects working with our General Counsel & Chief Risk Officer to provide guidance and commercial solutions to ensure that legal issues don’t become barriers.
  • Providing legal support in a range of other legal matters including legal research and providing advice about the interpretation of contracts, ensuring good contract management, updating precedent legal documents and providing guidance to colleagues across the business about key legal issues.
  • Building relationships with commercial colleagues and embedding awareness of legal risk management and corporate policy issues.
  • Assisting in the resolution of legal disputes.
  • Dealing with external advisors, including preparing instructions to and liaising with external lawyers.
  • Participating in corporate support work, providing ad hoc company / commercial legal advice and some working with our HR team in relation to employment law issues.

TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL REQUIRE THE FOLLOWING…

  • A solicitor qualified in England & Wales with at least one year’s post qualification experience at a regional, national or international firm in a commercial or corporate team and ideally (although not essential) with some experience in employment law.
  • Experience of assisting with negotiation, drafting and advising on complex, strategic, long-term contracts.
  • Enthusiasm to gain wider experience such as in data protection, intellectual property, employment law and legal risk management.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with confidence in their ability and drive to be part of a fast paced and growing business.
