    The Bureau is looking for a dedicated and capable person to be part of the Social Science and Service Policy Team (SS&SP) which provides social science capability for the organisation. The SS&SP Team sits within Hazard Preparedness and Response National Section which is also responsible for contributing to and influencing government policy in the areas of Disaster Risk Reduction and Emergency Management, overseeing the functioning of the Hazards Services Forum, and enhancing future warnings services. The Section is responsible for liaison with key Commonwealth and national agencies and the coordination and development of international relationships with the Disaster Risk Reduction community and the World Meteorological Organisation sections concerned with the communication and efficacy of warnings.
    The successful applicant will be a flexible self-starter who enjoys a diverse range of work and has strong written and verbal communication skills, project management knowledge and can work to deadlines. Applicants must be team players who value working collaboratively and supporting colleagues to solve problems and achieve objectives. This role will support the social science capability in the Section to contribute to improving the effectiveness of forecast and warning services and their development to maximise the benefit to the community. Understanding of the disaster risk reduction community, behavioural economics, behavioural psychology or risk communication would be advantageous.
