Description:
POSITION SUMMARY:
Assist with providing a safe, school ready learning environment for all children as well as a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on youth development, including the YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, faith and caring.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, interpret, retain, and teach documents such as safety rules, operating maintenance instructions, and procedure/educational manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of children, parents, staff, members of the YMCA, and/or others, as well as in one-on-one situations.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Responsibilities:
- Assists Teacher in providing a positive learning environment and experience for children, parents and staff.
- Implements early learning curriculum within the established guidelines to ensure all children are school ready.
- Supervises the children, classroom, and all activities.
- Assist Teacher with making ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
- Maintains program site and equipment.
- Collects data for daily reports and maintains program records.
- Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff training.
- Role model to both children and staff.
- Assists with classroom cleanliness, setup and presentation. Playground curb appeal toys cleaned up and stored, trash, etc.
- Responsible for the safety and risk management children.
- Makes sound decisions in alignment with YMCA and state standards.
- Adheres to policies related to boundaries with each child.
- Ensures unused rooms and closets remain locked; routinely monitors high-risk locations (bathrooms), etc.
- Reports suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
- Follows mandated abuse and incident reporting requirements.
- Meets timelines and deadlines related to supporting systems and employee compliance. Example includes but are not limited to Kronos Workforce Ready for review and approval of time sheets.
