The DukeLIFE (Lower Income, First-Generation Engagement) office is an administrative office in the Intellectual Community division of the Office of Undergraduate Education (OUE). The mission of DukeLIFE is to enhance the academic experiences of undergraduates who are lower-income and first-generation college students (1G/LI students). Our initiatives provide students holistic support to promote their full participation in the university’s intellectual communities. We also foster socioeconomic inclusion at Duke by coordinating resources and support strategies with campus partners to meet the needs of the 1G/LI undergraduate community.

JOB SUMMARY

The program manager provides leadership to initiatives that foster the success of 1G/LI students in their academic, social, and co-curricular pursuits to prepare them to excel in their lives after graduation. With a focus on upperclassmen, the program manager will create opportunities for students to receive professionalization, participate in career-accelerating experiences, network with alumni, learn about financial wellness, and prepare to start their lives in new cities after graduation. They will work in collaboration with campus partners, including the Career Center and Alumni Engagement and Development, to build meaningful partnerships across campus and leverage the university’s resources in support of 1G/LI students.

EDUCATION

Work requires analytical, communication, and organizational skills, which are generally acquired through completing a bachelor’s degree program.

EXPERIENCE

Work requires two years of experience in a student-facing role involving program coordination or academic, instructional, or counseling activities to acquire the skills necessary to plan, coordinate, and implement various program activities and events. Knowledge of the career and professional development needs of lower-income and first-generation college students at highly selective institutions is essential.

  • Demonstrated strategic thinking and planning skills
  • Strong organizational, time management, and project management skills, with the ability to support multiple projects at different stages and deliver them accurately and on time
  • Advanced communication skills to clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences, including students, employers, donors, alumni, and campus partners
  • Discretion when accessing and handling confidential information
