Description:
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Tennessee State University is seeking a Microbiology Research Associate for our Food Safety Research Team. The Research Associate will work with the team in conducting food safety research projects. The individual will report directly to the project leaders.
Primary responsibilities include, but not limited to,
o The individual should support and drive assignments to completion.
o Individual must be in apposition to show strong initiative and be capable of independent work
o Organizing testing schedules, collecting microbiological samples from produce and animal farms, developing, and performing laboratory experimental protocols, analyzing data, writing, and presenting results, and participating in team meetings
o Generating data, maintaining electronic databases, documenting results in laboratory notebooks and reports
o Maintaining a safe and clean laboratory as well as all other assigned areas of responsibility
o Maintaining laboratory supply inventory
o Coordinating activities for student workers and assist with literature review
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
M.S. in Microbiology /Biotechnology or closely related field. Candidate must provide evidence of at least one year laboratory experience in Microbiology/Biotechnology or related field and have demonstrated ability to work in a team environment. The following microbiology techniques are essential: microbial culture preparation; media/buffer preparation; acquaintance with common equipment such as, autoclave, centrifuge; acquaintance with biosafety procedures; skills in microbial experiments under aerobic & anaerobic conditions. Experience of using Excel, SPSS or other equivalent statistical program in data analysis is needed. Effective oral and written communication skills and good interpersonal and organization skills are required.
