Description:

SUMMARY

The Research Technician II position in Gene Vector Core. The Core provides services related to viral vectors (adenovirus, adeno-associated virus, and lentivirus) to academic and non-academic investigators. The technician interacts with Core customers. Performs complex, responsible research work of an advanced nature requiring high-level skills and expertise, uses own initiative and completes advanced medical or research experiments under general directions from the principal investigator. The main responsibility is viral vector production for customers. However, the core is actively involved in research and development. Research literature, planning experiments, and executing them to obtain knowledge are routinely required. Creativity is necessary.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • No experience required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with molecular biology, mammalian cell culture, and HPLC is a plus.
  • Knowledge of biology, chemistry, and physics is desirable.
  • Being creative.
  • Has good communication and organization skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Plans, directs and conducts vector production and quality control assays that includes plaque assay, qPCR, and SDS-PAGE.
  • Evaluates and analyzes data.
  • Develops research techniques and performs applications required for specific research projects.
  • Conducts literature searches and summarizes information in an appropriate format for a particular study.
  • Assists in the progress report and grant preparation.
  • Documents results of experiments and report to principal investigators.
  • Supervises, schedules, and coordinates the activities of less experienced research staff.
  • Maintains high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) ,and performs HPLC analysis for viral vectors.
  • Maintains viral vector inventory.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
