Position Details: Full-Time, Permanent, New Position
Salary Range: $66,100-$82,600, based on a 35-hour work week. Salary for this position will be commensurate with each individual’s education and/or experience as it relates to the position.
Location: Remote in the Lower Mainland or other BC coastal location

REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience with a post-secondary degree in restoration, biology, ecology, environmental science, environmental project management, or related fields. An equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered.
  • Registered Professional Biologist (RPBio) or eligibility to obtain this designation within six months of onboarding. A Biologist in Training (BIT) or Registered Biology Technologist (RBTech) designation would be considered as well.
  • Good working knowledge of coastal wetlands, including tidal marshes and floodplains and experience with ecological restoration in these environments.
  • Demonstrated skills in project prioritization, planning, implementation and data collection.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work outdoors in challenging environments in all weather conditions.
  • Experience with field navigation and comfortable working alone periodically and operating field equipment (provided by DUC), including: 4WD pickup trucks, ATVs and hand tools.
  • Able to travel anywhere in BC, valid Class 5 driver’s license (in good standing), and access to vehicle for transportation to/from field sites.

Responsibilities:

The Restoration Biologist will work closely with DUC’s Conservation Pro team to identify, implement and deliver wetland restoration and creation projects to help mitigate impacts to wetland habitat in coastal BC. This position will also support the Nature Force initiative by working with researchers and other groups to develop a portfolio of projects that work with nature to protect communities from flooding in southern BC. The Restoration Biologist will take a leadership role in implementing innovative salmon habitat restoration and research projects throughout the Fraser River Estuary.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Deliver on-the-ground restoration and monitoring projects with partner agencies (e.g., innovative tidal marsh restoration, wetland construction).
  • Build and manage relationships with various conservation partners, including First Nations, government and industry partners.
  • Collaborate with researchers on applied research projects and promote natural infrastructure for coastal resilience.
  • Lead and support environmental monitoring of restoration projects.
  • Collect and analyze field data, including supervision of field crews.
  • Liaise with regulatory authorities.
  • Develop project proposals, write funding applications and technical & financial reports.
  • Assist with administrative functions and processes.
