Job Description
Smiths Detection is a division of Smiths Group Plc, a FTSE 100 Company operating in more than 50 countries and employing over 23,000 people. The business is a world leader in the design and manufacturing of detection equipment into the transportation, military and other markets.
The Senior Financial Accountant will be responsible for managing and co-ordinating the accounting activities to meet key performance objectives as set by the North and South Asia region and Smiths Detection HQ. Reporting directly to the Finance Manager, South Asia, this position will complete all financial and management reporting of the Australia and New Zealand entities, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in the various systems, and adhering to Corporate Policy, Accounting Standards, Corporate Ethics, and statutory obligations. This role will also be responsible for managing local statutory accounts, local income tax and VAT filings, other reporting requirements, and cash management including dividend and intra group loan.
Duties & Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting for the Australia and New Zealand entities.
  • Ensure consistent use and appropriate application of the global chart of accounts and accounting principles and policies.
  • Ensure application of the appropriate accounting and reporting standards (IFRS, AU& NZ local GAAP).
  • Responsible for transactional journal posting to SAP (e.g. company bank reconciliation, accrual, prepayment)
  • Responsible for recharges for regional and global services to intercompany.
  • Responsible accurate and timely monthly Onyx actuals
  • Supports on South Asia program transactions and monthly analysis to ensure accuracy of program
  • Assist with vendors and customers on boarding review (Vendor’s bank /customer credit review) in accordance with group and regional
  • Preparation of monthly Balance Sheet Reconciliation and review, and identify risks for follow up
  • Review Employee expense claims prior to payment. r and to ascertain claims are aligned to the Divisional T&E policy
  • Supports on treasury transactions e.g. Foreign Currency Exchange deal booking and transfer surplus
  • Assist with Finance Manager to complete budgeting and forecasting or the areas accounts for working capitals and Responsible for budget and forecast uploading into Onyx.
  • Supports on statutory audit and internal
  • Responsible for statutory tax compliance (Payroll tax, GST, Income tax and FBT)
  • Support the Finance Manager, Financial Controller and other stakeholders with their financial information needs and provide interpretation of financial information to stakeholders.
  • Supports to Finance Manager on Inventory management including monitoring the inventory module and supports to regional service/sales/program team on regular cycle counting results analysis to ensure appropriate actions is taken on a timely manner
  • Supports to Finance Manager on fixed assets
  • Ensures the effectiveness and efficiency of the internal control system across SD, particular on Sales to Cash and Inventory Liaise with internal departments to ensure that group requirement is complied.
  • Support the organization in ad hoc projects (regulatory compliance, System improvement (SAP) & implementation of new tools, etc)
  • Any other routine or ad-hoc matters that require support

The Individual

Skills and Experience:

  • University Degree as qualified accountant is mandatory. CPA or CA preferred,
  • 5 years+ professional accounting experience
  • Proficient in MS excel
  • Experience of working on ERP especially SAP
  • Detail-oriented and proactive
  • Great written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability and motivation to solve unique and complex problems and pursue and achieve effective results which drive the business
  • The ability to work independently and manage a range of stakeholders
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with an emphasis on process improvements
