JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Communications Strategist (Indian Country) is responsible for developing and executing communication plans that align with a company’s goals and objectives to serve diverse stakeholders across Indian Country, including tribal governments, nonprofits, federal agencies, and state governments. This role involves creating, managing, and refining strategies that enhance the awareness, reputation, foster audience engagement, and convey key messages effectively across multiple platforms. A successful individual will have experience tailoring communications strategies to account for tribal diversity, gauging public sentiment, and leveraging metrics to improve campaign performance.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree required in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism, or a related field (master’s preferred)
  • 10+ years of relevant experience
  • Communications experience in Indian Country and with AIAN audiences (required)
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong understanding of Indian Country media channels, media relations, digital marketing, and content creation
  • Proficiency with social media platforms, media metrics, SEO, analytics tools, and content management systems
  • Ability to think strategically and execute tactically in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with crisis communication and reputation management
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement culturally-grounded communication for diverse stakeholders across Indian Country
  • Craft compelling messages for both internal and external audiences, including customers, stakeholders, media, and employees
  • Oversee content creation for various channels, including press releases, social media, newsletters, websites, blogs, and more
  • Manage media relations and build strong relationships with Indian Country journalists, Native influencers, and other media contacts
  • Ensure brand consistency across all communications platforms
  • Analyze communication efforts and use data-driven insights to refine strategies and improve performance
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with other KAI teams and service lines to align communication efforts with business objectives
  • Lead crisis communication efforts, ensuring timely and appropriate responses
  • Monitor industry trends and news to stay ahead of emerging opportunities and challenges
