Mō te tūranga | About the Role
We are seeking two astute Lawyer’s to join Westpac’s Institutional and Business Banking and Treasury legal team to cover parental leave on a 12 month fixed term contract. We are interested in hearing from both senior and intermediate lawyers for these roles. This is a wonderful opportunity to get a taste of in-house life and within a team with unprecedented team culture!
You will be part of a team of transactional banking and finance lawyers delivering high quality legal support and advice across the bank.
The way we are structured allows you to transition nicely from private practice but within Banking and requires you to work closely with a wide range of stakeholders across the business. You will provide internal legal advice on a wide range of institutional and corporate lending and/or capital markets transactions, including corporate financing, securitisations, project financing, asset financing, sustainable financing, bilateral lending, syndicated lending and club arrangements.

Your legal experience and excellent organisational and interpersonal skills will hold you in good stead. In addition, you will have great communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships across all levels of the organisation.
- Bachelor of Laws (or equivalent) and NZ Practicing Certificate
- NZ law firm and/or in house banking and finance experience
- Excellent drafting and negotiation skills
- Strong technical skills in the work areas identified below, including sound knowledge of:
- New Zealand banking and securities laws
- Market standard lending documentation
- Legislation and regulations impacting Banks including FMCA, AML/CFT, CCCFA and relevant Reserve Bank requirements
- General corporate and commercial legislation such as Companies Act, Unfair Contract Terms
