QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree; preferable in science, engineering, business or other related technical discipline. Masters degree, Project Management Certification and/or Supply Chain experience preferred
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills are essential
  • Demonstrated leadership, team skills, self-confidence, and effective decision making throughout a project
  • Must have demonstrated ability to plan, implement and achieve significant, complex goals and objectives
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with a range of technically and culturally diverse people to deliver value added business results
  • Must be able to work in fast-paced team environment and adapt to changing business needs
  • PMP certification preferred
  • Experienced in MS project and other similar systems
  • In addition to the core competencies of leadership, innovation, communication skills, teamwork, problem solving and a commitment to quality and compliance
  • Must be effective at communication at all levels of the organization and be able to coach/direct the activities of others
  • Project Portfolio Management skills and an ability to develop constraint based project portfolio plans with the ability to identify and manage the portfolio to ensure the organization’s strategy is delivered
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain strong relationships cross-functionally and across geographic boundaries
  • 7+ years of direct project and program management experience

Responsibilities:

THE ROLE

BMS External Manufacturing is looking to recruit on a permanent Senior Manager, PMO Lead, Strategy & Business Excellence External Manufacturing, reporting to the Director, Strategy & Business Excellence External Manufacturing, Bio & Pharma Operating Units. The person covering this position will focus on execution of External Manufacturing project portfolio in close collaboration with the Manufacturing Science & Technology (MS&T) PMO. The PMO Lead is responsible for monitoring, reporting, and overseeing the project portfolio. This role ensures a robust governance structure is sustained to enable effective communication of key performance updates and critical issues. This role provides strategic leadership for overall program governance as well as advise, coaching and Project Management support through implementation of best practices of project management and execution.
Based on your function, department or individual position, you will have the opportunity to discuss with your Manager the option to work remotely up to 50% of the time, over a two-week period, with the flexibility to choose the days that align with your collaboration needs.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

PMO Governance

  • Ensures a robust governance structure is sustained to enable effective communication of key performance updates and critical issues. The governance structure will ensure escalation of critical issues and required decisions to the ExM Leadership team forum. Will ensure robust governance by:
  • Keeping ExM leadership team and other key stakeholders (even if not included in the formal project governance structures) appraised of key issues and drive decision making process from leadership to ensure obstacle are address and there is alignment across the portfolio of projects
  • Establishing strong working relationships with key customers/opinion leaders (external and internal) and demonstrates personal ownership and accountability for results with a focus on customer service
  • Ensuring individual projects and overall program is executing against the agreed plan, anticipates problems and ensure that any delays or changes to scope that do occur are tracked and approved through a formal change control process
  • Interpreting and managing the business risk exposure generated by the programme/projects
  • Collaborating and continuously improvement processes in alignment with MS&T PMO
  • Ensure planning of portfolio management, budgeting and portfolio prioritization cycles.

    Manage Project Portfolio

  • Provide strategic leadership for overall program governance & providing advice and guidance regarding project governance, management, and benefits realization

  • Apply “filtering” methodology related to project and program selection prioritization and approval. Communicates the implications of multiple project execution on the organization’s resources and help ExM leadership team make informed decisions
  • Taking responsibility for program level planning and reporting, including effective capability building and program feasibility and scoping
  • Identifying and assisting in acquiring project resources, considering capability and skills, and defining and structuring the project teams
  • Establishing and managing relationships with key stakeholders throughout the delivery process and ensure all internal customers and aligned to provide equipment, materials and services to support the completion of the projects
  • Create a climate that fosters personal investment and excellence, foster commitment to common goals.

    Strategic Project & Program Execution

  • Lead ExM-wide / above-site key strategic projects and programs to support business strategies & execution

  • Monitor execution of plans, measure of results and correct deviations, as appropriate.

    Operational Excellence, continuous improvement:

  • Support ExM strategic initiatives and operational excellence / continuous improvement projects

  • Support business transformation through the effective use of Continuous Improvement methodologies in the execution of strategically important improvement initiatives
  • Create value for the organization through developing and embedding effective business performance measurements and management systems.
