Description:

Senior Research Assistants are normally graduate students, or University of Winnipeg undergraduate students, employed to assist in the execution and evaluation of research projects in their area of study. The positions may oversee Research Assistants in areas such as the use of proper techniques, analysis, and documentation.
Senior Research Assistants work under the general supervision or direction of more senior researchers or faculty members, and are expected to exercise judgment in prioritizing, planning and organizing their own work within defined parameters.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The senior research assistant will support and oversee various aspects of research projects related to K-12 schooling and supporting student well-being in schools with a focus on equity. The senior research assistant will work closely with the faculty supervisor and other RA’s to conduct academic research, liaise with study participants, manage data collection processes, and support the overall organization and timelines for the research program.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Thorough understanding of educational theories related to student well-being/becoming.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Manitoban schooling context.
  • Previous experience conducting educational research using qualitative and quantitative methods.
  • Strong background in all aspects of the research process including preparing manuscripts for publication and preparing conference presentations.
  • High level of comfort with MS Suite (Word, Excel etc.).
  • Understanding of survey tools (i.e. SurveyMonkey, Qualitrics).
  • Ability to manage all aspects of data collection following ethics protocols.
  • Ability to engage in data analysis using inductive and deductive methods using relevant software (i.e., NVivo).
  • Ability to prepare manuscripts for publication according to guidelines.
  • Excellent communication skills with all levels of stakeholders in education (i.e., students, teachers, administrators, etc.).
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to lead a team of RA’s.
  • Commitment to student equity and student well-being in schools.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement data collection protocols, including surveys and focus groups.
  • Recruit research participants.
  • Conduct high-level and complex academic research and literature searches.
  • Collect and manage research data, conduct advanced analysis of research results and document findings.
  • Interpret research findings and perform editorial tasks.
  • Present project status and findings to stakeholders.
  • Organize and host seminars, focus groups, community meetings, special events, social media posts, and other forms of public engagement.
  • Support project procurement and RA supervision.
  • Contribute to overall activities and internal operations related to the research project.
  • Perform other duties, including administrative support, as required or assigned.
