The Opportunity
Our Safety Strategy & Governance Group is currently looking to add a Senior Safety Specialist to the team, based in Calgary, AB.
Reporting to the Team Lead, S&G, this position will develop, review, and maintain safety governance that complies with regulations and industry best practices. This includes conducting hazard assessments, identifying control measures, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure practicality and field focused effectiveness. The position requires significant technical expertise, collaboration skills, and a proactive approach to continuously improving safety outcomes through effective procedure design and implementation.

What you will do

  • Develop, review, and maintain comprehensive safety governance applicable to all operational locations within the organization
  • Conduct thorough hazard assessments and risk analysis to identify potential safety risks and determine appropriate control measures
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts, operational leaders, and front-line personnel to ensure procedures are practical, user-friendly, and effectively address field-level safety requirements
  • Ensure all safety procedures comply with relevant regulatory standards, industry best practices, and the organization’s safety management system
  • Provide guidance to supervisors and workers on the proper interpretation and application of safety procedures
  • Monitor procedure effectiveness through field observations, incident investigations, and employee feedback; revise procedures as needed to continually improve safety performance
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and coach to assist other safety professionals in developing high-quality, consistent safety procedures across the organization
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate safety procedures with other operational systems and processes (e.g., work planning, permit to work, contractor management)
  • Maintain detailed records and reporting on safety procedure development activities and continuous improvement initiatives

Minimum Qualifications

  • Post-Secondary degree in Occupational Health & Safety or a related field
  • 10 years of experience in safety procedure development and implementation
  • Proven expertise in hazard identification, risk assessment, and control measure selection
  • Strong understanding of relevant safety regulations, standards, and best practices
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret technical information and translate it into practical, user-friendly procedures
  • Project management skills to coordinate cross-functional procedure development initiatives

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous midstream industry experience

This position requires candidates to:

  • This position will involve travel and overnight stays away from home (estimated up to 25% of work schedule during peak work periods)
