ABOUT US
Diamond Light Source is the UK’s national synchrotron science facility. By accelerating electrons to near light-speed, Diamond generates brilliant beams of light from infra-red to X-rays which are used for academic and industry research and development across a range of scientific disciplines including structural biology, physics, chemistry, materials science, engineering, earth and environmental sciences.
Responsibilities:
We now have an opportunity for a Senior Software Systems Engineer (Detectors) to lead design, development, commissioning and provide operational support of the software for detector systems in the framework of the Diamond detector development programme. In addition, they will perform work with controls systems to support the design, development and operation of the accelerators and/or beamlines on the Diamond Synchrotron Light source.
Responsibilities include:
- Leading the definition of the systems requirements in collaboration with the detector scientist and engineering project teams.
- Enabling detector software integration with existing Diamond software and IT systems to ensure successful delivery of detector systems on Beamlines.
- Applying technical and scientific know-how to ensure that developed systems meet the goals of innovative, world-leading science and engineering on beamlines or accelerator systems
- Applying an appreciation of the wider deployment of control systems across substantial parts of the organisation, exploiting synergies and common tools and approaches
- Responsibility for the on-line commissioning and fault-finding of the instrumentation stack from hardware to data acquisition
