Your role and responsibilities
In this role, you will have the opportunity to join innovative ABB Marine & Ports, Service & Digital Team, where we shape the future of marine technology by delivering cutting-edge solutions like propulsion system modernizations, shore-to ship power connections, and energy storage systems for vessels.
As a Software Engineer, you will assess existing installations, propose forward-thinking solutions for life cycle extensions, and collaborate on state-of-the art system engineering. You’ll play a key role in supporting sales and delivering high-performance systems.
The work model for the role is: LI #onsite. However, we are happy to offer flexible working arrangements, whenever possible.
Position will be located in Helsinki.
This position reports to Engineering Manager.
You will be mainly accountable for:
- Lead control automation scope in service projects (e.g., propulsion control system modernizations, energy storage systems).
- Program PLCs using ABB 800M product family and 800xA integrated automation system.
- Engineer HMI systems and collaborate on functional descriptions and documentation.
- Work closely with the project team (Project Manager, Lead Engineer, HW Engineer) for successful delivery.
- Perform onsite and factory acceptance testing with customers and classification societies.
- Provide technical support to sales teams, including defining technical scopes.
- Conduct service visits, remote support, and fault diagnostics.
This position offers the opportunity to work internationally, including travel to the US, and provides a dynamic environment where your work directly impacts the future of marine operations.
Qualifications for the role:
- Degree in a relevant field (e.g. Electrical Engineering, Automation or Computer Science).
- You have experience in commissioning or engineering.
- Proficiency in PLC programming (Structured Text) and ABB automation products (800xA, 800M).
- Knowledge of marine electric propulsion or power / energy management systems (batteries preferred).
- Familiarity with older ABB automation systems (e.g., Selma, AC70, AC80, AC110) is a plus.
- Electric work certification is an asset.
- Willingness to travel internationally (approx. 80 days/year).
