Description:

We are looking for two highly motivated, ambitious individuals to join our team providing elective and emergency care working within the surgical services of LGI, UGI, breast and endocrine.
Initial contract is for up to 12 months with a view to being extended.
The successful applicants will join a dedicated team of Junior Clinical Fellows, Specialty Registrars, Specialty Doctors and Consultants.
The successful candidates will be able to develop their knowledge and skills in a busy department. The Speciality Doctors will work with and support a team of consultants.
Clinical duties include outpatient clinics, assisting in emergency and elective operating, reviewing acute patients in the Emergency Department and participating in ward rounds. The post-holder will participate in the General Surgery on-call rota. Other duties will include teaching, training, researching and developing local services as appropriate to skills and experience.
The level of clinical responsibility and delegated duties given to the Specialty Doctor will depend on previous experience and training and this will be in agreement with the Clinical Director and supervising consultant who retains overall responsibility for their patients. A strong team-working ethic is essential for the role.
Candidates must be on the GMC register. Applications without GMC registration will be rejected.
English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply
You will provide a clinical service in conjunction with your colleagues and under the direction of Consultant General surgeons, which will include the responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness.
You will be required to adhere to the principles of good medical practice laid down in the guidance of ‘Good Medical Practice’ issued by the General Medical Council.
The post holder will be involved with the examination and treatment of new patients in the department and will also assist in the review clinics.
The post holder will participate in an on-call rota (1:10) with resident on-call shifts out of hours.
You will be expected to deputise for absent colleagues and in exceptional unforeseen circumstances may have to perform additional duties to ensure the safe running of the department. Where such duties take place outside your normal contracted duties, you will receive either an equivalent off duty period or will be remunerated appropriately.
You will be required to participate in the LHB’s risk management process and in clinical audit and other clinical governance activities within the department, the directorate and the Trust. Adherence to Caldicot Principles is mandatory.
