JOB DESCRIPTION

At Skyworks’ Timing Division, we solve hard problems in the ultra-precision timing space, targeting such applications as 5G, HPC, and datacenters. This is a new role for a Staff Software Engineer on a dynamic software product that our industry customers use to keep the world moving. The successful applicant will be expected to rapidly come up to speed on our evolving, test-driven codebase; provide architectural guidance, mentoring, and outside-the-box ideas and initiatives; and produce first-rate code at a pace commensurate with such a senior position.
Responsibilities
- Gain familiarity with industry standards and emerging trends, using these to recommend new features and improvements to the codebase
- Participate in the architecture, development, and testing of precision timing software in C and/or Rust on embedded Linux
- Collaborate with team members to jointly solve problems and to mentor junior contributors
- Clearly communicate architectures, features, and other ideas, both formally and informally, within the team and to other stakeholders
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- CS/ECE/EE or similar degree plus industry experience: Ph.D. + 3 years, MS + 6 years, or BS + 8 years
- Extraordinary C and/or Rust programming skills backed by lucid algorithmic thinking
- Proven deep understanding of networking at all layers of the stack
- The phrase “Precision timing aspirant” near the top of your résumé to show you read this
- Ability to perform in both self-directed and collaborative settings
- Excellent attention to detail and a desire to get your solution right
Preferred Skills
- Mastery of Go and Python
- Comfortable with Linux shell scripting and systemd
- Familiarity with PTP, NTP, or other time protocols

The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is currently USD $112,500 - $215,900 per year. Starting base pay will depend on relevant experience and skills, training and education, business needs, market demands, the ultimate job duties and requirements, and work location. Skyworks has different base pay ranges for different work locations in the U.S. Benefits include access to healthcare benefits (including a premium-free medical plan option), a 401(k) plan and company match, an employee stock purchase plan, paid time off (including vacation, sick/wellness, parental leave), among others. Employees are eligible to participate in an incentive plan, and certain roles are also eligible for additional awards, including recognition and stock.
