QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
- Graduation from an Institute of Technology with a diploma in Geomatics Engineering Technology supplemented by safety and other related courses plus sound experience in land survey work, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- A post-secondary degree in Geomatics is an asset
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrated experience in land survey work in a public or private practice;
- Survey experience in an urban environment;
- Strong oral and written communication skills;
- Ability to direct and review the work of survey assistants and provide training;
- Skill in the use and care of modern survey instruments and equipment including GNSS and robotics;
- Sound knowledge of computer applications, including CAD, related to work performed;
- Ability to read and interpret legal survey information and apply boundary resolution principles;
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and to collaborate within a team environment;
- Problem solving skills;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and clients;
- Ability to reconcile differing perspectives, develop consensus, and secure cooperation with team members;

Responsibilities:
MAIN PURPOSE & FUNCTION
Supervises a land survey field crew (Survey Assistant II’s) and conducts land survey field and office work independently under the direction of a Commissioned BC Land Surveyor (Surveyor I).
The Land Survey Technician will supervise a survey crew in the performance of field work for statute land surveys, property boundary retracement and establishment, control surveys, and topographic surveys. Office duties include field note reduction, data quality assurance, and plan preparation using CAD systems.
SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead a land survey field crew that includes one or two Survey Assistants;
- Conduct land survey field work with minimal supervision;
- Understand and follow standard survey practices in the operation of GNSS equipment, robotic multi-stations, digital levels and associated data-processing systems;
- Download and edit field survey information using AutoCad Civil 3D, MicroSurvey and the Leica suite of systems; perform error analysis, quality control, adjustments, and interpret the results;
- Interpret legal and engineering drawings with minimal guidance;
- Research state of land title and understand typical registered encumbrances;
- Perform high quality CAD drafting for topographic plans, location plans and statute survey plans with minimal direction;
- Direct and guide Survey Assistants, and provide technical training, instruction and guidance on the use of current survey hardware and software applications;
- Carry out work safely, efficiently, and accurately;
- Other duties/responsibilities as assigned.
