Description:
The Prince Rupert Port Authority has a duty to ensure that all projects taking place within the lands and waters of its jurisdiction meet an appropriate standard of design and safety. To that end, the role of the Manager, Technical Compliance is to assist and support the technical review of projects to ensure that that standard is being met.
This position would be responsible for identifying the relevant codes and standards to be applied for projects under review and leading the process to ensure they are met. After a project review is completed and the project is authorized, this position would also be responsible for ensuring that any conditions of that approval are being met throughout construction and into operations.
MAJOR POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Monitors planned and active projects within PRPA’s regulatory jurisdiction, including those executed by PRPA as well as external proponents.
- Determines the applicable codes and standards to apply to those projects to meet PRPA’s responsibility to ensure that they meet an acceptable level of safety and design.
- Determines the required deliverables and documents to be provided by project proponents to prove compliance with the above codes and standards.
- Reviews the required deliverables and documents to ensure they meet the applicable standards and codes.
- Identifies the additional expertise and resources, both internal and external, necessary to assist and work within a team to complete the above tasks.
- Lead procurement process for obtaining external resources (consultants and vendors) and subsequently manage their work and performance.
- Manage system for tracking the progress of projects to ensure that the appropriate deliverables have been provided at appropriate project milestones.
- Assist PRPA’s Commercial and Regulatory Affair department with preparing Port Authority Operations Regulation (PAOR) authorizations.
- After the issuance of the PAOR authorization to a proponent, monitor for compliance with the conditions of the authorization, some of which may be operational conditions that continue beyond the completion of the project.
- Ensures that project documentation and all due diligence records including monitoring/compliance activities are maintained.
- Participates on multi-disciplinary teams with other Port staff in furthering project developments and tenant oversight.
- Performs other duties as directed by the Director, Project Services.
FORMAL EDUCATION
- University Degree in relevant engineering discipline.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), Engineer in Training (EIT) or engineer eligible for registration with Engineers and Geoscientists BC.
- Engineering technologists with suitable experience will also be considered.
RELATED EXPERIENCE
- 3 to 5 years’ related experience.

The starting base salary range for this role is $102,937 - $128,671
