Description:
Position Purpose & Overview
The Design Teacher is responsible for developing and delivering engaging lessons that teach students key design concepts. They will integrate modern tools and technologies while fostering creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills through project-based learning. The role also involves assessing student progress, managing the classroom environment, and collaborating with colleagues to enhance the design curriculum.
The Design Teacher will instruct design classes across Grades 6 to 8, in the IB Middle Years Programme. Candidates applying for this role will have experience of teaching Design, ideally at MYP level.
Key Responsibilities
Typical responsibilities and duties are inclusive of, but not limited to:
Demonstrate a passion for student-centered teaching and displaying flexibility in teaching style while effectively planning and preparing for classes.
Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lessons in design, incorporating both theoretical and practical elements.
Teach a variety of art and design techniques and mediums, including drawing, painting, sculpture, and mixed media.
Integrate modern design tools and technologies, such as CAD software, 3D modeling, and other digital design tools, into lessons.
Organize and display student artwork, creating opportunities for students to showcase their work.
Adhere to the scheduled class times for teaching classes, maintain availability for student support, and attend meetings at the designated times.
Promptly informing the Program Coordinator(s) of any necessary changes to curriculum, planning, and obtaining approval for any trips or events from the Senior School Principal.
Develop a classroom environment that builds positive relationships and fosters an ethic of care.
Design, prepare and deliver learning activities that facilitate authentic engagement.
Identify and select instructional resources and methods to meet students’ varying needs.
Use relevant technology to enhance instruction and learning.
Maintain a well-organized and stimulating learning environment.
Use information about prior achievement to set expectations for student learning.
Provide clear and constructive feedback to students and their families and caregivers.
Design and implement a range of authentic assessments for both monitoring and measuring student learning, providing appropriate and timely feedback to students.
Maintain accurate and complete records of students’ progress for the purposes of teaching, learning and reporting.
Participate in faculty and parent meetings and special events.
Model respectful and timely communication with students, colleagues, and parents.
Endorse the school’s mission, vision, and values.
This role will require working hours outside of school office hours: often evening events; occasionally going offsite to document student programs; and occasional morning and weekend commitments.
