DESCRIPTION

The License Registered Nurse shall perform services requiring basic knowledge of biological, physical, behavioral, psychological and sociological sciences and of nursing procedures. Nursing practice utilizes standardized procedures in the observation and care of the ill, injured and infirm; in maintenance of health; in action to safeguard life and health; and in the administration of medication and treatments prescribed by those so authorized by state law. Each nurse is directly accountable and responsible to the consumer for the quality of nursing care rendered. May float to other Provider office sites as requested. Employee will be expected to perform most job duties independently and in accordance with established departmental and hospital policies and procedures and regulatory laws.
Telephone triage nurses respond to health related questions over the telephone. The triage nurse needs to be able to ask pertinent questions in order to determine whether the patient is in a low or high-acuity state, whether 911 should be called to attend to the patient. If matters are not urgent the nurse can set up an appointment with provider or refer the patient to Express Care for lowest acuity, or Urgent Care for medium acuity. Telephone triage nurses are also responsible to process incoming prescriptions refill requests. Most refill requests can be processed via the department’s refill protocol, but some require direct authorization from the ordering provider. The telephone triage nurses must be familiar with the protocols, be comfortable with the information, and able to use their own judgment with findings in the patients records.
