Summary : The Clinical Laboratory Specialist performs complex pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic processes, and may perform specimen collection. Uses established knowledge base of clinical indications for laboratory testing and processing. Job Description: Schedule: Saturday & Sunday | 6:30 AM – 10:30 AM Additional Details: Eligible for weekend premium pay Part of a holiday rotation KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: Performs complex processes including collecting bone marrow, performing and staining pathology frozen specimens, performing EKGs, processing and resulting send outs, and resulting moderately complex testing. Obtains specimens from inpatients and outpatients following proper identification protocols and appropriate techniques to maintain the integrity of the specimens and prioritizes collections to meet established turnaround times. Supports patient testing by performing waived testing, loading analyzers, and performing lab functions, as needed, to meet patient demands. Adheres to OSHA and ThedaCare department policies for specimen collection and handling to ensure a safe work environment. Provides training for new lab and non-lab team members to retain top talent. Performs specimen-related computer functions with accuracy and speed including entering physician’s orders, processing cancelations, and entering add-on tests to ensure regulatory compliance. Enters, activates, and/or reviews physician’s order in the system with accuracy for patient safety and quality. Maintains supplies and assists with inventory and ordering to ensure the availability of supplies to perform patient care responsibilities. Performs special specimen collections (i.e., legal specimen collections) to support patient testing and follow up as required by law. QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma or GED preferred• Must be 18 years of age Two years of laboratory experience and Associate’s degree or four years of equivalent experience in progressive complexity of responsibility in a laboratory.
