Fairview has an exciting opportunity for a full time Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist (MLS/MT) position at M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center-East Bank in the Immunology/Histocompatibility (HLA) lab. The ideal candidate will have experience in blood banking, molecular techniques, or flow cytometry. This is a full-time evening position (2:00pm-10:30pm) with participation in on-call schedule, weekend hours, and holidays.
The HLA lab is a local leader in serving transplant patients for bone marrow and solid organ transplants. HLA serves a unique and diverse patient population with our hospital recognized as a national leader in areas like bone marrow and solid organ transplantation. Our team of 15 staff members performs highly specialized testing such as HLA typing by molecular methods and HLA antibody monitoring pre and post-transplant. Our lab works in partnership with the local organ procurement organization and national paired kidney exchange programs.
Specific activities for this role include HLA typing, T & B lymphocyte purification, performing flow crossmatches, DNA isolation from multiple sources, and freezing and thawing of lymphocytes. These tests include use of flow cytometers, Luminex instruments, RT-PCR instrument, and thermal cyclers.
The Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) functions independently in performing all major work responsibilities of professional laboratory practice. The MLS performs a wide variety of complex diagnostic and therapeutic testing, and acts as a resource for problem resolution and interpretation of results. The MLS correlates data based on clinical knowledge, technical expertise, and other conditions affecting test results. The MLS collaborates with the customers of the laboratory to promote customer satisfaction. The MLS participates in laboratory performance improvement activities.
