BASIC FUNCTIONS: This role combines hands-on Site-Reliability Engineering leadership of the MVR Stratus SRE squad and ownership of ICS-wide portfolio-operations / best practices, including metrics. In addition to coding, troubleshooting, and improving production systems, the Lead maintains a live portfolio dashboard, tracks cloud spend and “before/after” KPIs for projects, and coaches junior engineers. The position has direct reports and acts as the operational extension of the Manager-SRE and Director.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• 7+ years of Software Engineering experience
• BS Engineering/Computer Science or equivalent experience required
• Demonstrated success leading medium to large Cloud projects, including complex, cross-functional initiatives.

TECHNICAL SKILLS:

• Advanced knowledge of SRE / DevOps practices: SLOs, incident response, post-mortems, capacity modelling
• Strong experience with various resource models such as Managed Services and/or Staff Augmentation.
• Strong experience with Azure and/or AWS: Cost Management, tagging standards, FinOps fundamentals
• Proficient with Kubernetes, Terraform/ARM/Bicep (IaC), CI/CD (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or similar), Python, GoLang, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, .NET
• Ability to partner and lead internal and external technology resources in solving complex business needs.
• Strong research skills.
• Ability to design and work with complex data models.
• Strong knowledge in industry best practices in development and cloud engineering.

• Knowledge in using and developing applicable tool sets.
• Ability to write and review portions of detailed specifications for the development of complex system components.
• Familiarity with Agile Scrum/Kanban; comfortable maintaining live portfolio boards (Jira/ADO)

• Strong organization/project planning, time management, and change management skills across multiple functional groups and departments, and strong delegation skills involving prioritizing and reprioritizing projects and managing projects of various size and complexity.
• Strong problem-solving experience involving leading teams in identifying, researching, and coordinating the resources necessary to effectively troubleshoot/diagnose complex project issues; prior success extracting/translating findings into alternatives/solutions; and identifying risks/impacts and schedule adjustments to facilitate management decision-making.
• Strong communication (verbal and written) and customer service skills. Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills applicable to a wide audience including senior and executive management, customers, etc., including diction/terminology and presenting information in a concise and effective manner to clients, management, and various departments using assorted communication mediums.
• Certifications a plus (CKA, AZ-104, AWS SA, FinOps Practitioner, PMP/CSM)

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Serve as the initial point of escalation for cloud issues within specific area of responsibility (MVR - Stratus Squad).
• Interface with other technical personnel or team members to finalize requirements.
• Work closely with other development team members to understand moderately complex product requirements and translate them into designs.
• Collaborate with Core SRE leadership to embed tagging, observability, and reliability standards across squads.
• Successfully implement cloud engineering processes, best practices, and code reviews.
• Operate in various development environments (Agile, Waterfall, etc.) while collaborating with key stakeholders.
• Resolve complex technical issues as necessary.
• Mentor and/or train entry-level software engineers as directed by department management, ensuring they are knowledgeable in critical aspects of their roles.
• Keep abreast of emerging cloud/SRE tooling; champion innovations that reduce toil or cost.
• Carry out management responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies, procedures, and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.
