FIRST AID TRAINER AND HEALTH AND SAFETY ADVISOR

We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable First Aid Instructor and Health and Safety Advisor to join our team in a combined role.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced First Aid Trainer and Health and Safety Advisor to join our established Health and Safety team and work with us to deliver great customer service and ongoing support to our clients in a variety of sectors across the UK.
YMD Boon is a trusted, multi-disciplinary building consultancy with over 50 years’ experience, formed by the merger of YMD Architecture and John Boon and Partners. We are a RIBA and RICS Chartered Practice specialising in architecture, building surveying, and health and safety services. We boast a team of 55award-winning professionals, ranging from architects and architectural technologists to building surveyors, clerk of works and health and safety consultants.

KEY SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• A valid first aid certification is essential; additional qualifications in teaching or education are advantageous.
• Proven experience as a First Aid Instructor or in a similar educational role is preferred.
• Excellent organisational skills to manage multiple training sessions effectively.
• Around 2/3 years’ experience in health and safety as a minimum.
• A minimum of a NEBOSH Certificate qualification must be held to be fully competent in the role.
• Proficient IT skills for creating presentations and managing training documentation.
• Fluency in English, with strong verbal communication skills to present information clearly.
• Ability to engage participants through effective communication and behaviour management techniques.
• Be open to UK wide travel where required.
• Hold a full UK driving licence.

THE ROLE

The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills and a passion for educating others on essential first aid techniques and supporting clients with their health and safety requirements. You will be responsible for delivering engaging training sessions, ensuring participants are well-equipped with the necessary skills to respond effectively in emergency situations, and also be the competence person for a number of clients. This role requires excellent organisational abilities and effective communication skills to facilitate learning in a supportive environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Deliver comprehensive first aid training sessions to diverse groups, ensuring all participants understand key concepts and techniques.
• Develop and maintain training materials that are up-to-date with current first aid practices and guidelines.
• Present information clearly and confidently, adapting teaching methods to suit various learning styles.
• Maintain accurate records of training sessions, participant attendance, and assessment results.
• Stay informed about advancements in first aid practices and incorporate new information into training sessions.
• Supporting clients to ensure their procedures and working practices are safe and comply with legislation and guidance.
• Undertake thorough health and safety management audits and site inspections and producing remedial action plans across a range of sectors including education, retail, charity and construction.
• Support in the development of local policies and procedures.
• Support to carry out risk assessments and method statements.
• Produce high quality reports regarding hazard identification, accident investigations and funding applications.
• Produce newsletters and bulletins.
• Liaise and support with internal colleagues on matters of health and safety.
