Primary objective
To maintain the Alice Springs Education Office, its buildings, grounds, gardens and equipment in a safe, neat and orderly
condition in accordance with departmental standards and Work Health and Safety regulations and provide an operational
transit store facility for remote schools in the Central Region.
Context statement
School Operations provides operational advice and services to schools, tailored to their needs and focused on supporting
their improvement agenda. School Operations ensures the implementation of NT and Commonwealth Government policies
and department strategic priorities in NT Government schools. The position works within a small collaborative team based
in Alice Springs that supports the Central region and contributes to the priorities and strategic direction of the Department
of Education.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Ensure stores area is always kept in a clean and tidy condition and follow safety regulations and manufacturer’s directions
for equipment.
2. Facilitate and/or assist with the pick-up, storage and delivery of local department housing furniture and whitegoods,
repair items or other items required by or for schools.
3. Liaising with freight and transport companies and Business Managers regarding the accurate receipt and delivery of goods
to the Education Stores.
4. Liaising with Business Managers to ensure the delivery of stores orders to schools, in a timely fashion.
5. Oversee vehicle safety, servicing and storage for remote school vehicles.
6. Ensure the buildings and surrounds are maintained by undertaking a range of tasks, including updating internal procedure
documents and raising work orders.
7. Other duties as delegated by line management, including administrative tasks and reception duties.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Current Northern Territory ‘MR’ class driver’s licence, experience driving a 4WD, current forklift licence or ability to
obtain.
2. Computer skills, sound communication and interpersonal skills to correspond appropriately with all stakeholders inclusive
of people from diverse backgrounds.
3. Demonstrated aptitude to follow directions and exercise initiative, be flexible to meet deadlines, prioritise workloads
without direct supervision, and adapt to changing work conditions and practices.
4. Ability to perform a variety of tasks to a high standard which require knowledge of standards, practices and procedures
and skills obtained through considerable training and experience that can be used within his/her maintenance officer
duties.
5. Physical capability to pack and unpack goods from and into vehicles and knowledge and experience of Work Health and
Safety practices and procedures.
6. Experience in office procedures and systems including relevant experience in word processing, databases, spreadsheets,
and computer systems.
