We are currently seeking a Payroll Specialist to join our team. The Payroll Specialist is accountable for supporting payroll operations for First West Credit Union and its subsidiaries, ensuring payroll policies are followed and processes are executed accurately in partnership with Dayforce Managed Services. This role provides technical advice and expertise to the Manager, Payroll to ensure payroll practices are compliant with legislation and supports the Payroll Coordinator in day-to-day execution. Here’s what would be included as a part of your typical day Advisory Support: Provides guidance and mentorship to the Payroll Coordinator, reviews payroll outputs for accuracy, and supports resolution of complex payroll issues. Payroll: Supports payroll execution across multiple pay cycles, ensuring accuracy and timeliness. Coordinates with Dayforce Managed Services to resolve issues and validate outputs. Compliance: Ensures compliance with payroll-related legislation and regulations; produces payroll remittances and annual tax documents; oversees compliance with statutory reporting and filing requirements; and develops policies and procedures for the payroll function. Assists the Manager, Payroll in maintaining compliance with federal and provincial legislation, including CRA requirements and OSFI readiness. Controls: Develops processes for reviews and audits of each pay cycle. Supports audit preparation and documentation and ensures payroll records are maintained accurately. Collaboration: Collaborates with Dayforce Managed Services to ensure system functionality aligns with legislative and organizational requirements. Continuous Improvement: Reviews and recommends updates to payroll system configuration and, recommends and implements changes leading best-practice operations. Stakeholder Relations: Supports the Manager, Payroll in CRA-related matters and acts as a secondary contact for escalated payroll inquiries. Benefits Integration: Ensures payroll processing reflects accurate benefit deductions, leave adjustments, and return-to-work arrangements. Advises on payroll implications of benefit changes. Required Skills, Experience & Qualifications Diploma in business administration, accounting or in a related field required or an equivalent combination of experience and education; Bachelor’s degree is an asset Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) designation required; Payroll Leadership Professional (PLP) designation an asset 4+ years of payroll experience and advanced knowledge of payroll legislation required Preferred: Working knowledge of the Employment Standards Act and Canada Labour Code Dayforce experience or similar outsourced payroll platforms Ability to perform complex tasks with little or no supervision; comfortable working in a fast-paced setting where meeting time-sensitive deadlines is required Strong interpersonal skills and communication skills, with the ability to work well in a team environment Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to interpret legislation and resolve payroll discrepancies
